Dog and Fox

Great Story by Daddy for the Boys:

A dog and a fox

The sun came up at the same time it always does in the winter but the fox and the dog had already gotten up.  Breakfast was their favorite meal of the day and they liked to eat berries and nut bread and sometimes they even got to sip on fresh squeezed orange juice.  Today was a special day, it was The Little Forest Creatures Surf Competition and all the little animals were excited.  But there was so much to do before the contest began.

They had to clean the beach, setup the food table, and make the trophy for the winner.  When they got to the beach, they saw all their best friends.  LIttle Bear and Squirrel were already down the beach picking up trash and Turtle and Squid were putting the table together.  Kitty Kat and Tiny Horse were collecting drift wood to fashion into a trophy for the winner.

Fox decided to help clean up the beach with Little Bear and Squirrel so he grabbed a bag and ran down to walk the beach with them.  Little Dog loved snacking so he went and got the bowls and set them on the table, filling each one with tasty healthy snacks.  They had chunky peanut butter and cold, fresh cut apples and some cucumber slices with artichoke dip from the farmers market.
Turtle really liked the cucumbers and Squid had never seen peanut butter before because he lived in the ocean.  Everyone thought Squid should get back in the water so he didn’t dry out, but he seemed to be doing alright.

All the little animals went to finish the trophy.  It was a wave made out of drift wood and everyone helped make it.  They all agreed that whoever got the best wave would win.  They were all very good surfers but only one of them could win the contest.  Little Dog won the last contest and Fox got second place, but they both surfed really good.  Little Dog displayed his trophy and he was proud of it because he practiced his surfing all the time and he knew that practice is the way to get good at things.

The Giant Turkey, who was also the judge of the contest, blew a horn and the contest started.  All the animals paddled out to the peak.  Squid got the first wave, it was huge but the judges could not see it because Squid surfed it under water.  Little Bear was riding a longboard and he paddled onto a big wave but it closed out early and he didn’t get a good score.  Squirrel was sitting on the inside on a shortboard and got a nice one and was able to get a nice turn and even did a cut back to stay in the pocket.

Tiny Horse got the next wave and he went zooming down the line on his fish board.  It had two fins and he got going really fast!  It was a big nice wave and Tiny Horse was now in first place.  Kitty Kat was next and she was on a nose rider and was able to get up to the front of the board and hang ten.  Everyone thought she had a lot of style and looked like she practiced riding a log quite a bit.

The only two animals left to get a wave was Fox and Little Dog.  Just then, some big sets showed up outside.  Little Dog and Fox started paddling hard for the outside.  Little Dog turned to grab the first wave. Turning and burning was something he was known for and he took a late drop.  Everyone held their breath and he did a huge air drop right into a barrel!  He stood tall and a few seconds later he shot out.  Giant Turkey gave him a really good score on that wave and Little Dog moved into 1st place.  Would little dog be able to win back to back contests?

The only one left in the line up was Fox and the biggest wave of the day was rolling in.  He knew he had to be brave and commit to catching it.  He paddled over to where it was going to peak and paddled hard.  His board started moving with the wave and he stood up.  He did a bottom turn and set himself up for a giant barrel.  Fox was so deep in the barrel no one on the beach could see him for several seconds.  Then he shot out of the barrel and did a giant air and rode the whitewash all the way up to the beach.

Everyone was really excited because the waves that Little Dog and Fox caught were the best two waves that day.  Giant Turkey said, “Little Dogs wave was amazing, but Fox’s wave was the best so Fox wins the contest!”

Everyone cheered and everyone was happy for Fox, especially Little Dog because now Fox could put his trophy right next to his.  Little Dog and Fox were now the first two Little Creatures Surf contest winners!

The End
