Hudson -

Hudson loves piano, researching fish and dogs, history and animal Outschool classes.  Dog breeds, fish, and horses were interests he dove deep into studying with researching, online Outschool classes, videos and books.  He loves to read but nonfiction to learn about a topic of his interest.  He will read chapter books but no interest in reading series.  Math came easy to him until we hit multiplication and division which allowed him to struggle as he learned new skills.  It  provided an opportunity to teach him that his frustration was because he was struggling and learning.  He took Outschool math skill classes for multiplication which he felt was fun and hard at first and became an 8 or 9 at the end.  He likes to write stories and we focused on word spacing, capitals, punctuation, spelling, sentence and paragraph structure.  His penmanship is great and we continue to improve.  He liked knowing a lot of the Hawaiian words in his Outschool class, learning new places in a Trip around the World, learning to code with Scratch, and he loves his piano teacher and that it is a challenge.  He is a visual learner and we learned tips to support his learning through Outschool.  He wants to be an air traffic controller, learn to do a backflip, round off back tuck on flat, and do 3 digit division quickly by himself.  Language Arts is hard for him and he wishes he could get into and finish a good chapter book. He loves science, animals and wants to focus on doing math and learning pre algebra while we continue to improve his chapter book reading. Areas to continue to improve for him are his reading comprehension into a summary with a main idea, compare and contrast and encouraging more fiction books, writing structured paragraphs and details, quick multiplication recall, more advanced multiplication and division, fractions, decimals, multi step word problems, and maps.

Dylan

Dylan loves to read.  He read many book series including Wings of Fire, FableHaven, Dragon Watch, The Hobbit, Eye of the World just to name a few.  His favorite work is reading, history, math and outschool.  This year we worked a lot on multiplication, decimals/fractions, and division and he had an Outschool math tutor.  Focus, neatness, and organization were big areas we put a lot of attention towards in writing and math.  We focused on concepts, correcting the work, and reviewing it later to see huge improvements in these areas for math and writing.  He learned how to play the Ukulele, took Latin and computer coding lessons, got PADI scuba certified, learned archery, and collaborated through online game classes for teamwork.  He wants to be a day trader and would choose to work on history, animals, science, engineering and computers if he could choose.  He took a class on discovering his learning style and a class on managing time.  These two classes gave us tips to help support his focus, hard work, and learning style as a kinetic learner.  His goals are to be able to do a double side back flip and be better at multiplication, division being neat and organized in his math.  He feels that writing and math are hard for him, he needs help and wants to improve both of them, especially long division.  He has a big interest in learning history and how things work.  Areas to continue to improve for him are his neatness in writing and math, writing structured paragraphs and details, rounding large place value digits, more advanced multiplication and division, fractions, decimals, multi step word problems, and maps.
