Happy, Healthy, Smart and Strong!!!!!
Isn't that the truth. WOW. I am sooo grateful that I did not get seriously hurt.
Went to ride on Friday. It just seemed like an off day. Tired, dazed and confused. Pip was up in a paddock vs. being in her normal pasture. I got her and she didn't seem super excited to see me. She actually walked away from me which she NEVER does. Got her, noticed he back shoe was coming off, so we pulled it off. Groomed her then took her to my car where I tack her up. I am always iffy on this procedure since I let her graze while doing so. Got her saddled, grabbed my phone so that I could see when was the last time she got her shoes, then went to get on. My hands were full with my phone so I let her reins be loose on her neck. I knew exactly when I did it that it was not a great idea! Ugh! Got one, reins dropped over her neck and she stepped in them. Never a good thing. She freaked, I freaked, went to slide off, fell and she side stepped on my ankle. I was able to get away, get up, and back away until she could calm herself. She fell down, got up, and got ahold of herself as I went over to calm her. She ripped her reins and my ankle hurt. Didn't think much of it....walked her up to arena where the boys asked what happened since they heard me scream. I had to sit and process what did just happen!!!! Finally got ahold of myself, got new reins on and made myself get on her to not have a mental block. I walked around, finally decided to trot a bit. Then, Hudson was riding a new horse. A little mare pony vs. his gelding giant Lucky. UGH! Not thinking again, I came up to him on Pip and got too close before I noticed ears back and remembered she is a naughty mare! Well, guess what.....yep, she kicked at Pip and it my ankle took it!!! Directly on the other side. Maybe it cracked it back into place?! How is it possible I had two incidents happen to my same ankle within a matter of 30 min?! What on earth!!!! I was in awe, dazed and totally confused. Felt shaken up and scared that something else may happen. I didn't even have my seat, felt like I never even knew how to ride!!!
Yep, determined, stubborn, and persistent.....I continued to ride until I felt content.
I unsaddled her, walked her to her pin and let her loose. Then, she swatted me with her tail when I went to see if a cut she had on her hind leg was from her fall!!!! I was so vulnerable and scared I may get kicked again....so I ducked away and got the hell out of there. Hudson wanted me to help him tie his pony up since he said she likes to pull back when they tie her. So, I did and she was acting weird wanting to pull back...I did not have it in me and she could tell I had no confidence. I made him go give her to Melissa to deal with. I was done!
Now, confused and questioning if I even want to ride!! I don't want to ruin it for the boys and I do love it but it is not worth getting hurt! I AM SOOooooooo grateful that it was minor. It could have been sooooo much worse. Thank you!
I was able to walk on it at first. It hurt but I didn't really notice how bad. Just kept going. When I carried my saddle to my car, it was not fun but I just rolled with it. Later at home, I noticed it was starting to be more painful but not as bad as I thought. We took the boys to swimming and I considered walking. When we got to swimming, it was becoming more and more painful by the minute. Instead we went to Barnes and Nobles and by now I was limping. On our way out, I needed Justin to help me walk and I was breathing like I was in labor! OMG, how is this possible????? I considered going to the ER but on a Friday night??? No way. I decided to grin and bear it until we got home so I could try ibprofen and ice. We could not get home fast enough!!! I could not walk or put any weight on it. Popped some meds, got some ice, and rubbed my CBD deep relief (my miracle cream) on it!!! Ahhhhhh.....thank goodness. I started to get a little relief but thought I would be going to ER for a broken ankle the next day.
I slept with a compression ice pack and woke up able to gimp again with less pain. WOW! Surprisingly, I decided I think I can swim by treading water and using one fin so I could drag my foot. I limped down to the water and omg it was like heaven. Another miracle. Justin helped me out, I spent the day with my cream and ice! Better and better by the hour. It looked worse but thankfully was feeling better. I kept compression, ice and cream on it, kept moving it and taking ibuprofen.
Now I am able to walk on it, side step on the steps but my mobility is coming back faster than I would have ever have guessed!!!
Being healthy, strong, eating healthy, my cream and the ocean I am so grateful!!!
I hope it continues to improve by the hour/day. I should be back to normal in a few days.
Not sure where I will be mentally with riding and horses though. I have even considered selling Pip. I know it isn't her fault but just scares the hell out of me.
Until next time...
Hudson's horse kick..
Not too bad. Where Pip stepped on me. Thankfully my boots are slippery!
Oh no, it is swelling. And all the sudden it HURTS and I can't walk.
Ouch.
UGH! Gimped.
Snuggles. Grateful it has gotten better, I am able to walk and almost back to 100 percent. Just still hurts to go up and down the stairs because of the limited range of motion.
Hmmmm.Mia- what ya think about me riding again?
I think I will take off a few weeks and maybe go back to 1x week or wait until more time in the winter.
We shall see..
