Summer

Its that time of year again.  Wind and no waves.  SUMMER!!  Windsurfing!
Justin has been learning to wing with many of our friends so we went to a special place to wing and windsurf.  It was fun to watch.
Hudson picked up right where he left off.

This time we found a great little, more convenient place for him to go.

Time to wing.

The boys.

Wing and windsurf.

Progress Report

2019-2020 School Year is official, the year is over!
I am so so proud of both the boys and us for all our HARDWORK homeschooling this year.  Now time to turn in our progress report and portfolio from Dylan's 3rd and Hudson's 2nd year.  I think we may of surprised the school with this.  They were not sure what to do with it.  Then said they would make a folder for them in their homeschool section.  OK!  Its all copies, I have the originals so do as you wish.  We are just proud of our work.

Another picture....I feel so proud!

Contact: Jodel or Justin Edwards 808-757-8049 or 757-8052
Our Fall 2019 to Spring 2020 Homeschool year was a success for us.  Dylan completed 3rd grade and Hudson completed 2nd grade.  They both finished all of the curriculum workbooks we planned for them for the year, read a ton of chapter books, read alouds and audibles, did various projects, book reports, research, wrote stories, helped weekly at the Maui Humane Society and showed a love of learning especially when we went weekly to the library.  They read to the Maui Paw dogs at the library, interviewed friends and family, researched topics they were interested in and excelled in reading, writing, and math.  They both have finished their Summer Bridge Brain Quest workbooks and are ready to start 3rd and 4th grade.  In this portfolio we have included some copies of their work.
Some of their favorite workbooks that worked with their learning styles were Flash Kids Reading Comprehension, Evan Moor Math Skills and Fundamentals, Evan Moor Daily Science, Spectrum Spelling was easy for them and Evan Moor was a little more challenging.

The end of the year.

The beginning of the year.
Dylan
  • Loves to read and history
  • Needs to work on his writing and spelling.  He doesn’t like to write, can spell outloud correctly but not on paper, focus on writing projects, math then reading.
  • He is up to speed for grade in math, lang and grammar, ahead in reading
  • Lang & Lit - Dylan is reading chapter books one after another.  He loves to read and will read any minute he has.  He loves audible and being read to as well.  His reading has really taken off, can read fast, confidently and with no struggle with words he doesn’t know, spellings, or complicated readings.  He finished the Wings of Fire series.
  • Math - Dylan likes math but struggles with it too.  His ability is there but when he hits roadblocks they make him want to give up.  He is doing double digit addition, subtraction, starting algebra, multi step word problems and is up to speed on completion of 3rd grade math.
  • Writing - His penmanship and sentence structure has improved.  Spelling he is able to do verbally but writing is getting better.  He struggles with writing and is an area of focus.  Once he gets going he gets into it and is motivated.
  • History/Science - He loves history and has read The Battle for Boys series books and does a lot of research and questions about war.  Science he likes and has completed.
  • Specials - He loves outschool and has completed many science, animals, wings of fire, story writing, and war classes just to name a few.
  • What is your favorite work?  Math
  • What do you want to be? Explore jobs with math and computers, trader
  • If you could choose anything to work on what would it be? Focus on skating, math
  • What do you want to do that you can’t yet? Nose grab 180
  • What do you need help with?  Help on math (mult and division)
  • What do you wish we could teach you? More about the wars
  • What is really hard for you? Dividing, multiplying money, writing
  • If you could change or improve something what would it be? Get better at math

So Proud at the end of the year.

Excited for 2nd grade.
Hudson
  • Loves science and math
  • Needs to work on writing, spelling, reading then times tables for math.
  • Is up to speed in all areas for his grade, ahead in math
  • Lang and Lit - Hudson improved on his reading, now reading chapter books and can read outloud with confidence without being choppy.  Reading Dragon Masters Series.
  • Math - Hudson progressed through his math with not much struggle.  He demonstrated great math skills and is up to speed and past second grade math.  Now he is working on division and longer word problems.
  • Writing- Hudson’s penmanship is great.  Great improvement on sentence structure, punctuation and learning to love to write.  He wrote many stories in great depth with little to no struggle once he got going.
  • History/Science- Hudson likes science, especially learning about animals and the earth.  Projects with these subjects come with ease and motivation to be independent and creative.  History he has started to get into and read war books.

  • If you could change or improve something would it be?

Curriculum

This was all our curriculum for the year. Mid year I reviewed it to be sure we were going to complete it all before the summer and simplified it into one binder versus the many books we had. Looking back, I was so overwhelmed with curriculum (still am) but now know simple!! For me and for the boys. This year we will be trying a different method for curriculum of having one giant book that contains all the subjects. Then, moving on to another book with the same and supplementing here and there with lessons from other books. I have learned throughout the year how to motivate the boys, myself, keep us all focused and on task to get our priorities done. I have had to realize everyday is a work in progress and it is going to change from week to week and maybe circle back. At first I struggled with this and now am realizing that this is just the nature of the job...where I get to be creative, motivating, organized, planning, and routine.
