Jaws
The biggest waves in decades were suppose to hit jaws (north shore on maui basically across the Hana hwy from out house) weds due to a storm out north of us around japan. They predicted 50 foot waves so everyone went out to see jaws! Us included. It was raining and super windy but we couldn't let it pass us by without seeing it. So we went on an adventure! We have been to peahi where most people go but Justin knew of a better spot that he learned about from Jui Jitsu and went the other day. It was a hike though vs driving down. Yep, a 1.75 mile one way hike and muddy from the rain!!! Rain boots, bob and gear here we come!
Thank goodness for the bob!
We were all pretty muddy and dirty (stroller included) but it was worth it!
Yea no rain!
Luckily h was asleep.
When we got there one of the helicopters landed in the field right by us, picked someone up and took off. These helicopters were incredible to watch. How low they got to the waves and each other!
Woah!
There she landed. They were filming point break 2 the movie so were using the helis for filming. They also were taking up most of the area on the cliff side so it was hard to get great pics of the waves.
But we got some! You can barely see surfer to the left of the wave here.
Woah!!!
Go man go!
A better pic of heli landing.
That is a big a$/ wave!!
Go go go!!!!
Ahhhhh!
Just chilling with dad and rain boots. Looking at all the atvs.
Some shots from other people that I got from the jaws Facebook page. Had to steal these to show how crazy it is. These were probably the people with the 10k plus cameras in front of us.
Incredible!
Justin took this pic to show how many people!! There were cars everywhere and it took us almost an hour to get to our club from our house which normally takes about 20-25 min!
Great pic!
Crazy helis. How low can they go??? So dangerous!
The waves were measured at 63 feet from a credible source! I can not even imagine!!! Now they wear safety life jackets they can inflate but when I talked to Maria who I took sup lesson from she surfed jaws and was held down for 2plus minutes!! You have to train mentally she said! No thanks, I prefer to watch!
