During our stay we got to participate in a Kava Ceremony with the head of the village. Kava is a mildly narcotic drink made from mixing the powdered root of the pepper plant with water. The chief of the village and some of his people came to the island and thanked us for visiting. In tradition you present a gift for them to take back to the village people and drink your kava. We celebrated with Fijian food, dancing and music (which we missed since we went to bed). The kava made me sleep SOOOOO good!
